How does GEO IP.Net work?
GEO IP.Net matches the IP address of a visitor on your website and maps it to a country from a regularly updated IP/Country database.
Having identified the country of origin for your website visitor, GEO IP.Net automatically sets the page culture.
How is this different from the built in "Culture=auto" / "UICulture = auto" available in ASP.Net?
"Culture=auto" / "UICulture = auto" works by using the web browser language and culture setting. This approach has several drawbacks.
- Incorrect targeting - Most web browser installations default this to "en-US" regardless of where the computer is geographically located.
- User spoofing of location - It is easy for users to change the language/culture settings.
GEO IP.Net fixes the shortcomings of the built in ASP.Net "Culture=auto" / "UICulture = auto" feature.
How does GEO IP.Net work with ASP.Net?
GEO IP.Net tightly integrates with ASP.Net. It automatically and accurately sets the page culture. You will be able to use localization features of ASP.Net such as local/global resource files and currency formatting. Please see our online demonstration for details.
How is GEO IP.Net different from other Geolocation products?
GEO IP.Net has a number of benefits over and above those available with other providers.
- Does NOT need root access to the web server - many products from other providers are ISAPI filters that need root access to the web server. GEO IP.Net installs in the application /Bin folder and can be deployed using standard ftp or XCOPY deployment methods.
- Option for zero touch* database updates - GEO IP.Net can operate against a remotely managed database. We take care of the database so you avoid having to download and install database updates.
